Through this initiative we aim to teach scholars about:

Mpilenhle Recycling is currently running its first-ever annual schools’ PET competition, which commenced on the 1st of June 2021 and will end on the 31st of May in the following year.

Aim of the competition

  • Mpilenhle Recycling has seen an increase in the number of illegal dumping sites in the area.
  • As an organization, we saw an opportunity to teach school children how to be environmentally responsible humans early on in their lives. We saw that by instilling in them a strong sense of environmental ethics, we can provide them with the knowledge they need to minimize their carbon footprint and can help them make eco-friendliness second nature to them.
  • We want kids to know and understand the different classifications of waste at an early age, hence we teach them about the different types of plastic bottles that are recyclables and the recycling symbols that differentiate them.
  • The competition has grand prizes to the value of R60 000, where the winner which will be school that collects the highest tonnage, will receive R30000, the second runner up will get R 20000 and the second runner up will receive an amount of R10000.
  • What type of waste is recyclable?
  • The different classifications of waste
  • The impact of waste on the environment
  • Proper recycling etiquette
  • Financial literacy
